More than 1.9 tons of food waste is produced every day, most of which is still edible

According to the latest statistics from Southern Environment Corporation (SWM), an average of more than 19,000 tonnes of food waste was generated every day in the country last year , most of which was still edible food.
In addition, according to Malaysia's food waste statistics, the amount of food wasted, especially during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, is worrying.
To this end, Southern Environmental Group Co., Ltd. has collaborated with Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) and Muar Municipal Council to promote the "Avoid Food Waste" campaign during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan from March 1 to 30 this year, to remind the public and hawkers to cherish food and avoid waste.
Roslinda, head of the “Stop Food Waste” campaign and professor at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn, and her team will distribute leaflets to hawkers and the public during their Ramadan stalls and markets to spread awareness about not wasting food and encourage smart consumption to reduce food waste.
In addition, Southern Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. also distributed 240-liter wheeled trash cans to vendors for collecting food waste .
The campaign also encourages vendors and the public to compost food that is about to be thrown away, or send collected food waste to the city council's composter to make fertilizer that is beneficial to the soil.
She called on the public and hawkers to fully support and cooperate to make this Ramadan more meaningful, not only for themselves but also for the sake of environmental protection.
