JOHOR BARU, 25 March 2025

JOHOR BARU: A massive 500 metric tonnes of post-flood bulk waste is expected to be cleared across flood-hit areas in several districts in the state ahead of the Aidlfitri celebrations.

The affected districts are Johor Baru, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, Kluang and Iskandar Puteri.

The clean-up operation, led by SWM Environment Sdn Bhd, has been underway since Friday, with 200 workers and 40 heavy vehicles deployed for the work, said the company's corporate general manager Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin.

"In just five days, we have already removed 250 metric tonnes of flood debris, averaging 50 to 60 metric tonnes daily," he said.

Hard-hit areas include Taman Tampoi Indah, PPR Desa Mutiara, Kampung Seri Jaya, Kampung Seri Serdang, Kampung Sepakat Jaya and Kampung Sinaran Baru.

To streamline waste collection, temporary disposal sites have been set up in Taman Tampoi Indah and Kampung Pasir, Skudai.

Flood victims and volunteers are urged to place bulk waste outside their homes for smoother pickup.

SWM Environment is also offering free replacements for lost or damaged wheelie bins, with applications available online at www.swm-environment.com.

A police report is required for lost bins.

Cleanup efforts are set to continue until all affected areas are cleared before the upcoming festive season.
