MELAKA, 24 January 2025

Key tourist areas in the historic city will be given special attention by SWM Environment to support preparations to usher in the Lunar New Year.

The company's corporate general manager Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin said that SWM Environment will emphasise the cleanliness at tourism spots in Bandar Hilir, including Jonker Walk and the iconic Red Building (Stadthuys).

"This effort will also cover several beach and recreational areas across the state," he said on Friday (Jan 24).

Earlier, Mohd Norsilam together with Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong distributed Chinese New Year food aid kits as part of SWM Environment’s efforts to help ease the burden of the less fortunate during the upcoming festivity.

He said the cleaning operations at these locations would start from 4pm to 1am daily, starting from Jan 29 right up to Feb 2.

Mohd Norsilam said the collection of domestic and bulk waste throughout the state during the Chinese New Year celebrations will proceed as scheduled, with no additions or changes to the waste collection timetable.

"This includes public sweeping operations, drain cleaning, and grass-cutting services.

“The public is advised to manage household waste responsibly and to refer to service schedules for domestic and bulk waste collection, garden waste, and recyclable items," he said.

Mohd Norsilam said the public may contact the "Indahkan Malaysia" hotline at 1-800-88-7472 or the official WhatsApp number at 012-618 0082 for any inquiries or feedback.

On the company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, he said that SWM Environment is also contributing to recipients comprising senior citizens, low-income families, individuals with disabilities (OKU) and chronic illness patients residing in areas such as Kota Laksamana, Ujong Pasir, Malim Jaya and Pokok Mangga.

Mohd Norlisam added that a ceremony to hand over of food aid kits to the state government was held recently to assist 1,000 identified recipients across the state.

“This collaboration with government agencies and local community leaders demonstrates a shared concern for the well-being of the community, particularly for those who are less fortunate,” he said.
