Sunway City Iskandar Puteri partners SWM Environment for first cloud-based sustainable waste management system in Johor
JOHOR, 12 December 2024
Sunway City Iskandar Puteri (SCIP), an ongoing 2,000- acre development in Johor by the property development division of Sunway Bhd (KL:SUNWAY ) — Sunway Property, has joined forces with SWM Environment Sdn Bhd to offer the first cloud-based data system to streamline the township's recycling and sustainability efforts.
The cloud-based system will allow SCIP to gain real-time insights into recycling rates, which will help facilitate better oversight of sustainability efforts and strengthen resource management.
“Sunway Property remains dedicated to innovative solutions that advance sustainability in practical and impactful ways. Our commitment here is deeply rooted in the energy and passion of our young team in driving such initiatives towards shaping a greener future for Iskandar Puteri,” said SCIP chief executive officer (CEO) Gerard Soosay in a press statement issued on Wednesday (Dec 11).
SWM Environment believes that the partnership will further enhance and support SCIP's sustainability goals, and also for its KITARecycIe programme to play a part in this initiative.
“This partnership is a bold step that allows KITARecycIe to expand into cloud- data, to complement our effort to [a] digitalised, incentivised recycling system, and [our] ability to support the environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiative done by our corporate partner,” said SWM Environment's corporate general manager Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin.
Through SWM Environment's KITARecycIe programme, residents can monitor and earn cashback on their individual recycling contributions.
Thus far, SCIP's own efforts have seen it collect 260,000kg of recyclables since 2018, and to date, have collected and converted 4,000kg of used cooking oil into biofuel. There are two recycle drop-off stations at Sunway GRID and Sunway Boulevard 88 — funded by the Iskandar Puteri low carbon community grant by Majlis Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri, that is in partnership with SWM Environment.
