SWM Environment Sdn Bhd (SWM Environment) has donated 30 wheelie bins to Johor Zoo in line with its reopening on National Day.

SWM Environment corporate affairs general manager Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin said each bin was also decorated with cleanliness awareness pictures to remind the public to keep the zoo environment clean.

“We are very excited about the reopening of Johor Zoo, and we are honoured to have the opportunity to collaborate with the state government.

“The collaboration is done through the Johor State Secretary’s office (local government division) in providing wheelie bins for the benefit of visitors to Johor Zoo,” he said in a statement.

Mohd Norlisam added that SWM Environment, under its communication, education, and public awareness (Cepa) initiative, was also promoting messages and educational content related to its “Dispose of rubbish in bins” campaign on each wheelie bin placed throughout the zoo.

“We hope the entire community, especially future visitors to Johor Zoo, will make good use of these wheelie bins by not littering and maintaining the cleanliness of the zoo’s surroundings to ensure a comfortable experience for all visitors,” he said.

According to state housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor, close to 20,000 people visited the zoo on its reopening day.

He added that the entrance fee was only for adults, while children, the elderly and people with disabilities could enter for free.

“The usual ticket price for adults is RM10, but the state decided to offer a 50% discount in line with the National Day celebration until Sept 30.

“We are also planning to station more personnel to man the roads and help manage the traffic flow around the zoo,” he said, adding that its operating hours were from 9am to 6pm every day.

Johor Zoo is the oldest zoo in the nation, having first opened its doors in 1928.

There are currently 275 animals from 53 species at the facility.
