'Touched my heart': Anwar honors street sweeper who raised five successful children
KUALA LUMPUR, 19 August 2026
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has paid tribute to street sweeper M. Kavita, whose more than 12 years of working in all weather to raise her 5 children touched his heart.
In a Facebook post today, Anwar said Kavita's years of hard work and sacrifice had paid off, with all 5 of her children succeeding in their respective fields.
"May Kavita and all street sweepers and cleaning workers continue to be blessed with strength, good health and the respect they deserve.
"Thank you for your dedication and hard work in keeping our surroundings clean and safeguarding our well-being," he said.
Yesterday, Kavita's contribution was also recognised with a Special Award at SWCorp's Cleaning Workers' Day Appreciation ceremony.
The story of Kavita, an SWM Environment employee in Seremban, went viral on social media last month after her 4 daughters surprised her while she was at work to celebrate her 50th birthday.
The moment was made even more touching when they turned up wearing their respective work uniforms, including those of a pilot, cabin crew member and staff nurse, bringing Kavita to tears of joy.
