New bins for old in Johor

JOHOR, 28 August 2024

HOUSEHOLDS with wheelie bins that are more than 10 years old can have them replaced by waste management concessionaire SWM Environment Sdn Bhd.

South Johor area service manager 1 Mohd Nur Izham Ahmad said the company started a drive in June to replace the wheelie bins.

“The initiative is being carried out in stages, covering the 15 local councils under our care throughout Johor.

“The grey bins with green covers were distributed to households for free about 10 years ago to better manage domestic waste,” he said.

Mohd Nur Izham said the bins had helped to make the rubbish collection process smoother.

“We have taken the initiative to replace the bins to ensure a continued smooth waste management process,” he said in an interview.

He added that each bin provided by SWM Environment came with a serial number as it was considered a government asset.

Old and damaged bins with potential to disrupt the waste collection process will be replaced with a new one at no charge.

“Once a household receives a replacement bin, they must register it online via our e-Bin portal.

“Our staff will assist homeowners with the registration.

“They will also leave flyers with step-by-step registration instructions in the mailbox if nobody is at home when the bins are replaced,” said Mohd Nur Izham.

Households are reminded to leave their wheelie bins outside their front gates to ease the replacement process.

“The wheelie bin replacement drive will benefit the public as it helps keep the environment clean and ensures the waste management system continues to run efficiently.

“We would also like to thank households for taking care of their wheelie bins,” said Mohd Nur Izham, noting that some folk even washed their bins regularly.

After getting the replacement bins, he hoped households would continue disposing of their domestic and food wastes properly while also separating other waste such as recyclables, farming waste and bulk waste like furniture for SWM Environment to collect according to the stipulated schedule.
