A WHOPPING four tonnes of recyclable items have been collected by SWM Environment at its KITARecycle drive-through facility in Seremban, Negri Sembilan, over the past two months.

Its general manager Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin said paper made up about 2.7 tonnes of the total items collected.

“This is a very encouraging development since the facility became fully operational.

“We hope more people will use our KITARecycle drive-through, which is open daily,” he said.

Mohd Norlisam said since the waste management concessionaire launched its reward-based KITARecycle programme in September 2018, a total of 456,662kg of recyclable items had been collected.

A total of 6,352 members had signed up for the initiative as they could get points from the items they send to the centre.

As of January, 1.3 million recycling points had been redeemed by KITARecycle members.

“This initiative has certainly helped increase the amount of recyclable items collected compared to the time when we did not have one.

“This helps reduce the burden on landfills,” said Mohd Norlisam.

He also urged the public to visit its Communication, Education and Public Awareness hub at the state library in Seremban 2 to learn more about the proper management of wastes and SWM’s “reduce, reuse, recycle” initiative.

Among items that can be recycled in return for points are paper, plastics, metals, batteries, electronic items and parts, smartphones, television sets and glass bottles.
