Solid waste management and public cleansing company SWM Environment Sdn Bhd (SWM Environment) will implement three phases for the collection of rubbish in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebrations. SWM Environment corporate general manager Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin said the first phase would involve rubbish collection and clean-up operations before Hari Raya between May 10 and 12 while phase two will be from May 13 to 14 and phase three from May 15 to 17. Focus will be on collecting solid and bulk waste, cleaning of public markets, central rubbish bin collection and cleaning of town centres, beach and public areas. "For solid and bulk waste, we will place special focus on hotspots and areas with high density of Malays to avoid rubbish piling up. We will also focus on central rubbish bin collections, especially in apartments and high-rises as there will be an increase in waste, especially food waste," he told reporters at a media briefing on operation strategy in conjunction with Aidilfitri here today. Elaborating, Mohd Norlisam gave an example that there were 80 central rubbish bin locations identified in Melaka that need special attention for solid waste collection efforts, while there were 52 compactors and 28 open tipper lorries with 376 personnel on duty on the first day of Hari Raya, while 51 compactors, 29 open tipper lorries with 387 personnel will be on duty on the second day.
